April 2015 - Another terrific Blueprint installation, this time at Ambleside Garden Centre which has one of the best gift departments with restaurant and bar! Our territory sales manager, Danny, worked with Belinda at Ambleside to create a stunning display of 100% Abacus product on bespoke purple racks.
April 2015 Coltishall Post Office was remodelling their store due to the new Post Office regulations and decided to enlarge the card department at the same time. Abacus worked to create a light easy to shop card display, the display is 70% abacus & 30% customer owned. The install was not simple….! But the finished result looks impressive and offers a full complement of Occasions, Relations, Ages, Open and Birthday
April 2015 - Here's a good example of how effective a standard card fixture can be. This picture shows a new 'standard' fixture sitting proudly in J N Murray of Duke Street, Barrow. We built this one in 'house' colours and to specific width and height requirements and this allowed 18 tiers of cards.
December 2014 - Our latest Blueprint installation, Golden Days Garden Centre in Cheadle.
November 2014 - Following the Blueprint installation into Chepstow Garden Centre, featured in the post below, we have received this wonderful feedback from Gill Dodds, the garden centre's group purchasing manager: -
"From the first meeting I had with the Abacus personal involved in the Blueprint Project, to the end result has been nothing but positive.
We agreed with Abacus what colour units and header boards we would have and the plan of the units. The installation was quick and efficient. Abacus pulled together the suppliers we wanted on board with this project, agreeing what ranges and percentage of pockets they would have, they did the planogram for the cards from all the suppliers, which would have been a nightmare if we had to do it. Arranged with the suppliers to come in store and merchandise it together. Each supplier giving us the epos information we needed to ensure it was on our Torex system.
We were expecting to have a few teething problems, but I have to say it couldn’t have run smoother.
The sales have already increased, I am sure they will only get better as our customers and hopefully new customers hear about our new card section.
I would like to thank Alan and his team for all the help in this project, we couldn’t be happier with the results".
October 2014- Alan, our sales director, has just forwarded these photos of Chepstow Garden Centre, the latest beneficiary of a Blueprint installation; which is apparently one of the largest installations we have yet undertaken, involving over 1600 pockets across twenty-one racks plus displays on gondola feature ends.
Alan says that “Our challenge was to convert a mix of spinners and individual, non-matching, display racks from a variety of publishers, into a cohesive planned display that aesthetically matched the rest of their gift departments. Besides Abacus Cards and Clare Maddicott, we were asked to include Otter House, Paper Rose, Art Beat and Wendy Jones Blackett into an integrated plan”. Despite the size and complexity of the display, this was apparently one of the smoothest installations Abacus have been involved with thanks to great co-operation from the centre management, shop-fitters and other publishers.
September 2014 - Installed over a year ago this Blueprint display in Lealans Garden Centre, near Wolverhampton is still looking good. Alan, our sales director recently paid a visit to this account and took these snaps. The display contains 50% of Abacus product with the remaining 50% shared between two other card publishers, plus a gift wrap display from Giftwrap UK. Since installing the display (wall display and island unit) the sales have risen sharply; needless to say the customer is delighted with the display and the resulting increase in sales.
August 2014 - Alan our Sales Director has just forwarded these images of another successful Blueprint installation, this time at Codsall & Wergs Garden Centre near Wolverhampton. Alan says “the account is a long standing customer that has recently had new ownership and, consequently, is undergoing a “facelift”. The new Blueprint display is split 50/50 with Great British Card Company and, for the first time, is on a fully integrated planned display. We were asked to work to a very tight installation programme to ensure the display was fitted and merchandised ready for the August bank holiday weekend which, of course, we achieved! The customer is delighted with this new department and several pockets sold out in the first week!”
July 2014 - Although our Blueprint concept allows retailers to select other publishers cards for inclusion into their display plans; sometimes they only want Abacus product! Like this recent installation into Loughview Garden Centre, Lurgan, Northern Ireland; which boast a 100% Abacus, including a tiny bit of our sister company, Clare Maddicott's product. How smart the racks look and how well they complement their gift department. We understand the Garden Centre are delighted with the finish results too.
July 2014 - Space is obviously at a premium in this Londis & Post Office in Arnside, Cumbria but Ian, who has recently taken over the franchise of Bullough’s Londis & Post Office, undertook to remodel the shop to maximise the return per square foot. This included calling upon the services of our Blueprint retail display solutions to create a 3m 16 tier ‘shallow’ card shelving system, which offers 3m of continuous card display 16 tiers high and only protruding from the wall some 20cm (most stands are 50 / 60 cm deep)! This allowed for 4 more tiers than there were previously and without any breaks in the display. It is a stock controlled plan containing 70% Abacus product and 30% Woodmansterne.
July 2014 - We have just completed a Blueprint installation in “Occasions of Thirsk”, where owner Julie has recently doubled her retail space and shop frontage by renting the shop next door to her existing shop! Abacus installed 11.2m of bespoke racking in Julie’s chosen special colours; the re-fit also included some slat wall and acrylic shelves for social stationery. The stock control plan is managed by Abacus, but the display, which features 30% Abacus product, is also shared with Hallmark, Noel Tatt, Nigel Quinney, & Paper Rose, all of whom have 17.5% each of the display.
April 2014 - Our territory sales manager in the West Midlands, Danny Gratton, has just sent in these pictures of the Celtic Company in Welshpool to show yet another successful Blueprint installation. The Celtic Company is a fantastic card and gift shop, owned and run by Ros Jones. Ros is passionate about cards and gifts and has enormous experience in these sectors. Danny presented the Blueprint concept to Ros as it’s one of his top accounts; and whilst not a true ‘stock control’ plan, Abacus & Paperlink have 50% of the stores pockets. Ros was attracted to the stands because they increased the pocket count for the department and were ‘thin’ enough to create a gondola in the centre of the shop, which in turn removed the need for space hungry spinners and increased the pockets numbers further.
Ros has an epos system so she is able to carefully monitor performance of the department and ranges within it. Danny is therefore delighted that Ros has reported stronger year on year sales since the installation and says that the new display has also been very well received by customers.
February 2014- Here’s a wonderful example of what can be achieved via our Blueprint Concept. Our TSM Chris Duplock has recently worked with Donna King, gift department manager of Poplar Nurseries in Marks Tey, Essex, to rejuvenate their card department. Donna selected the publishers she wished to be included and our independent planner created this fantastic integrated plan; which has expanded their card display from 25ft plus a dozen or so spinners to a very smart, easy to shop display of 48ft of 12 row tiered, card fixtures plus 28ft of 9, tiered acrylic wall racking.
Abacus has 25% of the space, whilst 5 other publishers each have 15%. According to our sales team, all the publishers involved in this re-plan assisted in the set up and were very impressed with the layout and the changes Donna has made at Poplar. Donna herself is extremely pleased, for in just over a week since the installation, the card department is already seeing a huge uplift in card sales.

January 2014 - We just love working with our customers to get what is exactly right for their retail outlet; and the latest Blueprint installation at Rumwood Nurseries in Langley, Kent is the perfect example of this partnership. Our territory sales manager Simon worked with Ian Curtis, the nursery manager, to test our cards on a spinner before embarking on a complete fixture installation. The trial not only ensured the right products were selected but also proved the product warranted the removal of a competitor and the acquisition of more space. Deepak, another Abacus territory sales manager, assisted the installation of this Blueprint display, along with a Rapture spinner collection, which now affords the centre a smarter looking display with many more pockets.
November 2013 - We recently shared images of our Blueprint installation into Hilmount Garden Centre’s new branch in Bangor, Northern Ireland. The store has since been officially opened and our agent, Les Clarke, has just sent us these pictures of the grand opening by the Mayor of Bangor, Andrew Muir. Pictured with the Mayor are owner Robin Mercer and his son Alan Mercer. The third image shows the Abacus display looking very smart in readiness for the auspicious day. The opening ceremony was followed by a champagne reception. We certainly would like to raise our glasses in a toast to Hilmount and wish them every success with this new store.
October 2013 - Toad Hall Garden Centre, in Henley on Thames, is the latest customer to take advantage of our Blueprint display concept. We have installed a fantastic display into this prestigious garden centre’s brand new gift department. Consisting of 8ft of occasions, relations and milestone ages … 8ft of open birthday … and a 4ft display end of seasonal and promotional product, the display contains 50% Abacus product and 50% product from fellow publishers Noel Tatt. Many thanks to Helen, the department manager, and all the wonderful staff at Toad Hall who helped with the installation; we understand with so many hands on deck, including Louise Riley from Abacus and Jacqui & Michael from Noel Tatt, the display was up and merchandised in just a few hours. Great teamwork and a great display!
October 2013 - Hillmount Garden Centre’s new branch in Bangor, Northern Ireland, is the latest proud owner of an Abacus Blueprint installation. In this brand new centre, which is due to open its doors for the first time this week, we have replicated the house colours of their sister branch in Belfast. The card display, which contains a 100% Abacus product, looks rather smart we think. Opening just in time for the Christmas selling season, we wish Hillmount much success with this new garden centre venture.
September 2013 - Longacres, who are renowned for operating one of the busiest garden centres in the UK at their Bagshot site, are due to open a new branch at Shepperton on October 7th. Abacus was therefore delighted to be invited to oversee the organisation of the card department in this fabulous new Garden Centre using our “Blueprint” concept. The installation is 18.4 metres in total, consisting of 7.2 metres of wall racking, complete with overhead spot lighting; with the remainder consisting of a two side gondola display with a feature leading end rack for promotional card display and a slat wall end for social stationery. The complete display is evenly split between Abacus and four other card publishers: Paperlink, Noel Tatt, Ling and Paper Rose. We cannot wait to see the reaction of Longacres’ customers to this most impressive card department and we wish Longacres much success on the opening and running of this new Garden Centre.
September 2013 - Another successful Blueprint installation in Northern Ireland, this one is Logans Department Store, which is an out of town shop situated near Ballymoney. Previously the store only had a couple of spinner racks of cards, so this Blueprint installation is a major range development for them. Abacus occupies 80% of the space with White Cotton Cards residing in the remaining 20%.
September 2013 - Here’s a rather smart Blueprint installation recently carried out across the water in Smyth Patterson, an independent department store in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The display is 80% Abacus with the remainder occupied by White Cotton Cards. The new display is situated at the main entrance to the store and close to their coffee shop. Previously they had displayed cards on spinner racks and a couple of traditional fixtures, so this new installation is quite a makeover for Smyth Patterson from which the department store is confident that they will see a corresponding uplift in their card sales.
September 2013 - Here's our latest Blueprint Garden Centre installation, this time our happy customer is Moores Garden Centre in Stanton on the Wolds, Nottingham. Both the staff at Moores and their customers are very happy and excited by the new card display and product on offer.

April 2013 – We are delighted with this small but beautiful installation of the Abacus ‘Blueprint Concept’ into “Alana Interiors” a department store, in Lurgan, N. Ireland. The display contains 80% Abacus product and 20% shared between two other small publishers and Gift Wrap UK. Click here for more information on our Blueprint Concept.

Our Blueprint Concept doesn’t just extend to garden centres and department stores, here’s a recent installation at “Langham Glass”, a glass blowers with a gift shop and café. This brand new gift shop in Fakenham, Norfolk displays an impressive 6ft of cards and 2ft of gift wrap and stationery, all 100% Abacus. Apparently the manager is delighted with the installation and quality of the display stands.
April 2013 - Here's our latest "Blueprint Concept" installed into Dean's Garden Centre, Stockton-on-the-Forest near York.
